Department of Computer Science

In today’s fast developing technology growing industrialization and modernization, Computer Sciences hold a prominent place as few professions do. Computer sciences are and will continue to remain one of the prospective professions.

Computer Science is the study of Computer Engineering and Medical Science. The Computer sciences comprise all fields of science that involve the scientific study of Computer Engineering and Medical Science, like Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning beings. While Information Technology and Medical Science remain centerpieces of the Computer sciences, technological advances in the field of Computer sciences have led to a burgeoning of specializations and new, often interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary fields.

In health and medicine, doctors and nurses are relying more and more on computers to provide accurate diagnostics, administer treatment plans, and monitor the health of patients. Computerized equipment such as pacemakers helps patients with heart problems, and CT scanners use computers and X-ray machines to see the inside of a human body and diagnose potential health problems.

Computer science has been instrumental in general human welfare. For example, computer models help in studying the spread and control of epidemics, make bionic limbs, and even perform remote virtual surgery without the need for the doctor to be physically present right next to the patient. We have indeed come a long way since the magical music box computers of the olden days!

Keeping in view outlay and applications of Computer Science in every field to accomplish the eternal demand for resource personnel with specialization in Computer Science, the college started the Computer Science course in 2001.

B Voc. or Bachelor of Vocational Studies in Software Development is a 3 years undergraduate degree course that aims at improving the skills of the candidates by concentrating on theoretical knowledge as well as practical training. The main aim of this course is to give out skills related to Computer Science and Software Development. Bachelor of Vocational Studies is a practical and skill-oriented program that focuses on important practical knowledge along with theoretical knowledge.

The term “Computer Science” is the study of computers and computational systems. It is a broad field which includes everything from the algorithms that make up software to how software interacts with hardware to how well software is developed and designed. The algorithms, or methods that enable a computing machine to transform information and automate tasks, draw from different branches of science, so Katie made sure to enroll in mathematics and engineering classes too.

The Department of Computer Sciences offers both B.Sc., B. Voc and M.Sc. programs, five major ongoing programs: B.Sc. Computer Science, B. Voc Software Development, Bachelor of Computer Application, M. Sc. in Computer Science & Computer Management

The Programme will provide graduates with the expertise and experience to effectively contribute the technical development of the Computer sciences related industries like, Business, Banking, diagnostic, healthcare Institutes/Laboratories and basic and scientific research center.

Salient Features of the Department

Department of Computer Science

Swami Vivekanand Mahavidyalaya has established Computer Science Department in year 2001, and started with BCA & BCS degree courses. Now this department running BCA, BCS/(B.Sc.C.S), UG courses and M.Sc.(CS), M.Sc(CM)/MCM, PG courses for more than 1000 students from computer science & application stream. In 2008, our department got recognized research centre in Computer Science to provide the well known research platform for UG, PG students and faculty members. The department having well furnished infrastructure and resources like 120 P4, dual core & Core 2 Duo computers in six separate U.G. & P.G. air conditioned and inter-networked laboratories.

In addition a Digital Electronics & Microprocessor Laboratory which contain advanced digital gates trainer kits, 8085, 8086 microprocessors for individual student’s practical. Every lab have a close circuit cameras for monitor the practical sessions and activities of students in laboratories. The Computer Science department is connected with a 24 hrs Broadband internet service and 24 hrs online UPS Backup with 65 KV generator set for each and every laboratories. There are more than 5331 number of reference and text books, 06 magazines, 06 national journals and 04 International journals are available. There are 25 well qualified and experienced lecturers are engaging their theory classes and practical regularly in morning and afternoon sessions in computer science department.

Recently department of computer science started the digital attendance facility through digital attendance cards for each student and the attendance will be immediately messaged towards the concern parents. By using latest LCD Projectors students are presenting their online and offline project demonstrations (In digital class rooms), presentations and performances. Every academic year Computer Science department is providing the campus interviews in multinational software development companies like Persistent, HCL etc. Now department has a collaboration with HCL Pune for online/offline projects specially for final year students. Students can perform their performances in social activities like in NSS campus, Blood donation programs, pulse polio booths, Annual College Gathering etc. Department also arranges different types of seminars through expert resource persons from remote areas, and also engaging the students in national conferences, workshops etc. In May 2007-08 Ms. Biradar U.G. student of M. Sc.(CS) SY is passed in Second rank from SRTM University, Nanded. In 2008-09 academic year department of computer science got 78.38 % BCA result and 92.86 % BCS (B.Sc(CS)) result.

Dept of computer science organized successful national level conference on “National conference on challenges and opportunities in Information Technology and Bio-informatics 2009” on dated 27 & 28 Feb-09.
