Department of Computer Science and Research Centre

Swami Vivekanand Mahavidyalaya has established Computer Science Department in year 2001, and started with BCA & BCS degree courses. Now this department running BCA, BCS/(B.Sc.C.S), UG courses and M.Sc.(CS), M.Sc(CM)/MCM, PG courses for more than 1000 students from computer science & application stream. In 2008, our department got recognized research centre in Computer Science to provide the well known research platform for UG, PG students and faculty members. The department having well furnished infrastructure and resources like 120 P4, dual core & Core 2 Duo computers in six separate U.G. & P.G. air conditioned and inter-networked laboratories.

In addition a Digital Electronics & Microprocessor Laboratory which contain advanced digital gates trainer kits, 8085, 8086 microprocessors for individual student’s practical. Every lab have a close circuit cameras for monitor the practical sessions and activities of students in laboratories. The Computer Science department is connected with a 24 hrs Broadband internet service and 24 hrs online UPS Backup with 65 KV generator set for each and every laboratories. There are more than 5331 number of reference and text books, 06 magazines, 06 national journals and 04 International journals are available. There are 25 well qualified and experienced lecturers are engaging their theory classes and practical regularly in morning and afternoon sessions in computer science department.

Recently department of computer science started the digital attendance facility through digital attendance cards for each student and the attendance will be immediately messaged towards the concern parents. By using latest LCD Projectors students are presenting their online and offline project demonstrations (In digital class rooms), presentations and performances. Every academic year Computer Science department is providing the campus interviews in multinational software development companies like Persistent, HCL etc. Now department has a collaboration with HCL Pune for online/offline projects specially for final year students. Students can perform their performances in social activities like in NSS campus, Blood donation programs, pulse polio booths, Annual College Gathering etc. Department also arranges different types of seminars through expert resource persons from remote areas, and also engaging the students in national conferences, workshops etc. In May 2007-08 Ms. Biradar U.G. student of M. Sc.(CS) SY is passed in Second rank from SRTM University, Nanded. In 2008-09 academic year department of computer science got 78.38 % BCA result and 92.86 % BCS (B.Sc(CS)) result.

Dept of computer science organized successful national level conference on “National conference on challenges and opportunities in Information Technology and Bio-informatics 2009” on dated 27 & 28 Feb-09.

Department of Life Science and Biotechnology Research centre.

Biotechnology is a broad term that covers the practical use of biological systems to produce goods andvices. It encompasses the transformation of materials by micro-organisms (eg. fermentation), methods of propagation, such as plant cloning or grafting, and may involve genetic alteration through methods such as selective breeding. Biotechnology is the use of microbes, or life processes, to produce materials and products that are useful to mankind.

That is to say, any technique that uses living organisms, or parts of organisms, to make or modify products, improve plants or animals, or to develop microorganisms for specific uses can be defined as biotech.

The term was coined around 1915 but Biotechnology, in one form or another, has been around since prehistoric times. Centuries ago people discovered, quite by accident, how to make use of biological processes that naturally occur within living cells. While they might not have understood the processes, they did observe the results. They discovered, for example, that microbes like bacteria and moulds produced beer, wine and vinegar when grown in vats. Through trial and error, they learned to use these processes to solve problems and produce materials that were useful to mankind.

The College provides excellent and relevant teaching and research over a wide range of scientific disciplines, from Biotechnology and computer sciences to library and media sciences; it also provides a major input to postgraduate courses in Biotechnology, computer science and library science. Graduates from this College will be in a position to make a major contribution to the future wellbeing of Irish knowledge based industry as well as to many other areas of activity, from health-related disciplines to Agricultural enterprises. Of the four major departments of the college the department of Biotechnology is being looked after by total ten young and enthusiastic faculty members belonging from various different disciplines of life sciences with the ongoing research experience. The department has six (4 UG and 2 PG) well equipped laboratories provided with the advanced instruments like PCR, Gel Documentation system, Spectrophotometer, Semi Automatic DNA Sequencing Facility, Deep Freezer, Blotting System, Semi Automatic Fermentor etc. along with one plant tissue culture laboratory with state of the art facilities which are unique in the near by locality. The programme will provide graduates with the expertise and experience to effectively contribute the technical development of the life sciences related industries like Pharmaceutical industries, Fermentation Industry, Animal and Plant sciences related research, Research Laboratories in Biotechnology etc.

Department of Library & Information Science

As we know, now a days in every field from educational to the private companies, their as a constant need of libraries and a lot of job potential is required. So by keeping this in mind our college is running two courses under the library department i.e. the B.Lib. Sd.Sti. and the M.Lib, & LSci.

After completing the master’s degree the students are having lot of opportunities in the fields such as Academic Libraries, Special Libraries, Public Libraries etc. apart from these fields they will also get a job as a information officer at district level, as a Assistant Director and Library inspector recurted by MPSC. Under this department, our college is running the following courses at UG & PG level.

Department of Journalism & Media Science

With the advent of liberalization and the opening of the economy to the international world and with the invasion from the sky, innumerable career opportunities exist and are being created all the time not only in India but also abroad. But very few youngsters are aware of these opportunities for jobs in practically every field. One needs to acquire some basic job skills essential for every career.

Journalism is called mother of all media. Communicators of today have to understand the systems in which they work. They are required to have the basic skills of using language correctly and creatively and technical skills of writing, programming & production.

They need to develop the ability to process a variety of information to understand socio-economic, cultural issues affecting development. Not only in the national and international languages but even in regional languages, there has been tremendous increase in the news papers and magazines. This requires trained professional journalist. Journalism includes the occupation of reporting, writing, editing, photographing or broadcasting news.
